Todd & Duncan shares its influences and origins of its colour & knit ideas, from a variety of mediums, for AW2017/18.

Inspiration - Colours and Knits

Firstly, consider ceramicists Lucie Rie’s and Hans Coper’s earthenware vessels; the dramatic forms and shapes, the colour palette of glazes used, both en masse and individually. The surface markings; sketched, etched and scratched on the clay inspire textures, structures and patterns.

Secondly, ancient Indian natural dyes; made from spices, plants, trees and creatures, creates an exciting palette of contrasts and colour chemistry. Re-think the traditional Indian paisley shawl, with its familiar paisley motifs for small or large scale jacquards, intarsias or surface prints.

Finally, imagine winter tree silhouettes against dusk lit city skies or open country landscapes, and examine the changing colours. Interpret in to twisted colour combinations and blurred surfaces; re-work double cloth knits in contrasting weights or close colour combos.
